Amazon Buys Audible.com

Amazon.com today announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire Audible Inc.
Audible.com is the leading online provider of premium digital spoken word audio content, specializing in digital audio editions of books, newspapers and magazines, television and radio programs and original programming. Through its web sites in the US and UK and alliances in Germany and France, Audible.com offers over 80,000 programs, including audiobooks from well-known authors such as Stephen King, Thomas Friedman, and Jane Austen, and spoken word audio content from sources including The New York Times, The New Yorker, Fresh Air and Charlie Rose.
The iTunes community is a bit wary of what this will mean for Audible.com books on iTunes. Anybody here buy from Audible.com? I never really saw the appeal of it since the the audio books on iTunes are about the same price or more expensive than books on CD, and are far more expensive than just buying the hardcopy of the book. Personally, I’d prefer free podcasts to a $35 audiobook of Angels and Demons, but maybe that’s just me.

I looked at Audible.com a bit more closely after posting this, and it actually looks pretty good if you sign up for their monthly/yearly plan. Books end up being about $12 each or so. Pretty good price for an audio book.
